Micromax has come out with two new phones with built-in gravity sensors – the X600 Gravity and the Gravity GC700 – which employ the sensors in innovative ways.
The gravity sensor on the Micromax X600 Gravity phone enables a user to switch between its two SIM cards, with just a 360-degree rotation of the phone. This is a dual-SIM touchscreen handset , which comes with 3.2 inch TFT QVGA screen (320 x 240 pixel resolution) that displays 26,200 colors. Must read: GSM+CDMA dual SIM mobiles in India
The gravity sensor on the Micromax X600 Gravity also lets a user swap music tracks. The phone has two sets of buttons for dialing or hanging up a call – one set at the bottom, one at the top.
The Micromax X600 Gravity provides Bluetooth, EDGE, GPRS, WAP and MMS support. It comes with a microSD slot with a 4 GB of expandable memory option.
Other technical specifications of the Micromax X600 Gravity include an FM radio, an audio player, a 2-megapixel camera, and a video player and with video recording capabilities.
The Micromax X600 Gravity runs on a Li-ion (1000mAh) battery with talk time of up to 5 hours and a standby of up to 8 days. The handset is Web-ready with its in-built Opera Mini browser and offers support for the instant messenger Nimbuzz and social networking site Facebook.
There is no confirmed date for the availability of the Micromax X600 Gravity. Initial reports indicate that the handset will be priced at Rs. 4900.
The other offering, the 15-mm thick Miromax Gravity GC700, is also equipped with the gravity sensor technology. This capacitive touchscreen handset offers dual mode CDMA/GSM support.
The Micromax Gravity GC700 comes with a 2.8-inch screen (240 x 400 pixel resolution; 262,000 colors), with a Color Touch Lens and Sense-Flo interface. Other features include a music player, video recorder-cum-player, FM radio and a preloaded Opera Mini browser. The handset boasts of a large PHB/SMS memory with a PhotoCall option and sports a 2-megapixel camera.
The Micromax Gravity GC700 offers two navigation pads – one at each end – that serve as joysticks for gaming. The navigation pads also serve as earpieces so a user can receive a call from either end of the phone. The sides of the phone sport a USB port and a 3.5mm handsfree jack.
The phone’s performance is not bad and it has copied some UI features from the iPhone, such as the “Slide to Unlock” option.
On the downside, although the Micromax Gravity GC700 is capable of playing motion sensor games, the handset surprisingly comes with just three simple built-in games. The SIM card on the phone is positioned on top of the memory card slot, so the SIM needs to be removed each time you want to access the memory card.
Another drawback on the Micromax Gravity GC700 is that the stylus on the device is left hanging with a thread as there is no place on the phone to dock it. The Micromax Gravity GC700 is priced at Rs.9,900 and is available in the market.
