LG Prada touchscreen designer phone VS Apple
iPhone
It may not be an iPhone and it may not be from
Apple, but for those who do not want to be in the
Apple world or can't for some reason, the LG Prada
phone may just cut it.

1 Feb 2007: It looks like an iPhone, but is
not one. The new product is chrstened the LG Prada
Phone. Launched by South Korean electronics major
LG Electronics, the new designer mobile phone
incorporates a buttonless touch-screen - something
that has been in the news due to the hype
surrounding Apple iPhone just a couple of weeks
back.
Signifcantly, the new phone resembles the
much-hyped Apple iPhone and is all set to debut in
stores this February. Chrstened the Prada Phone,
it is being made in partnership with the Italian
fashion brand Prada. The Prada Phone is to sport a
price tag of 600 euros (US$780) and would be
available at mobile phone dealers and Prada stores
in Britain, France, Germany and Italy. The Aisan
launch is being mulled over probably by March.
The buttonless LG Prada phone has a
touch-sensitive screen. The resemblance with the
Apple iPhone ends there, say analysts. Apple's
iPhone is set for US release in June, and will
cost US$599 for the high-end model with 8
gigabytes of internal memory.
Meanwhile, the LG Prada Phone would come with a
wide-screen display and will have features to play
digital music and video formats, and a 2-megapixel
camera. Its memory can be expanded with cards,
said reports. It will be 12mm thick, which means
just 0.4mm more than the iPhone.
According to reports which detailed the Apple
iPhone, the hyped and much anticipated gadget
might see its retail price being reduced at a
later stage. The iPhone will yield gross margins
of more than 50 percent at the current set of
retail prices, said an analysis which studied the
presumed component and manufacturing costs. The
4-gigabyte version of the iPhone, with a retail
price of US$ 499,will cost Apple US$ 245.83 to
make, it has been estimated. Further, the
8-gigabyte version, which is priced at US$599,
will cost Apple US$280.83.
