LG has announced its first Android phone to be launched in the UK, the LG InTouch Max GW620 phone. Available via T-Mobile or Virgin Media, the LG InTouch Max GW620 would help LG make a mark in the increasingly popular Android mobile OS market. Update: LG GW620 launched in India

The phone comes with a resistive 3-inch 320 x 480 HVGA touchscreen display with a full qwerty slide-out keyboard, a 5-megapixel camera and a built-in social networking manager, LinkBook.

The inclusion of a keypad makes it slightly unusual, as many manufacturers such as the Google Nexus One and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 are now opting for touchscreen alone.

The camera offers auto-face tagging feature that recognises your friend’s face on a tagged photo and allows you to call, SMS, MMS or join your social networking site by touching their face in the photograph.

Measuring around 109×54.5×15.9mm in size, the LG InTouch Max GW620 includes the Minority Report and Face to Action features as well.

Connectivity options include Bluetooth, WiFi, HSDPA7.2, HSUPA2.0, GPS, and 3.5mm headset jack.

The phone works on UMTS (900/2100, 850/1900, 850/2100), and GSM (850/900/1800/1900).

The pricing details are yet to come out, but it is expected to have a retail price of £20 monthly on an unlimited data 24-month contract with T-Mobile and £22 a month for 18 months with Virgin Media.

“This is a symbolic launch for us. It signals the end of expensive and exclusive applications and the start of applications for everyone,” said John Barton, sales and marketing director for LG-Mobile.

According to Barton, the Android market offers around 20,000 easy-to-download applications and is poised to grow even more. About 65 per cent of these applications are free.

“We are proud to bring out the LG InTouch Max which is a high performing and easy-to-use device that is perfect for those out there who want to experience the ever-growing and popular world of applications,” added Barton.
