LG GS500 Cookie Plus phone launched

LG Electronics has revealed the successor of its LG KP500 Cookie, the LG GS500 Cookie Plus touchscreen phone. The phone is expected to be launched in Europe first, in March 2010. There is no information about when the phone will be launched in India and at what price.

The LG GS500 Cookie Plus phone will be available in three colors, Black, Silver, and Purple.

The LG GS500 Cookie Plus phone inherits all the specs of the LG Cookie but also offers some new ones, such as a graphical interface and easy access to popular social networking sites.

“The LG Cookie Plus is both a celebration of the original Cookie phone, which brought touchscreen technology to all, and an exciting first step in our new line of phones that will continue the Cookie legacy by adding creativity and affordability to the touch experience,” Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics, said.

The phone has a 3.0-inch full touchscreen (resistive, not capacitive, which is a thumbs down) with a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels and dimensions of 107.1 x 52.5 x 11.9 mm.

The phone works on GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 (2G) and HSDPA 900 / 2100 (3G) networks.

The LG LG GS500 Cookie Plus comes with a 3.15-megapixel camera and offer accelerometer for auto rotation and handwriting recognition.

There is LG’s Editable Screenshot MMS using which users can capture, edit, and send web images to their friends.

The phone offers LG’s proprietary peer management app, LiveSquare, that is like an interactive wallpaper (see photo above). It arranges avatar of the user’s friends around a square, and when there is any interaction, for example, if a friend sends a message, then his/her avatar lights up.

The friends who regularly interact with the user are the ones who take on the avatar and as the communication increases they become animated individuals on the home screen.

The GS500 Cookie Plus touchscreen phone comes pre-loaded with a weather widget and allows users to add up to 40 on-screen widgets.

Other specs of the LG GS500 Cookie plus touchscreen phone include Stereo FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth v 2.1 with A2DP, USB v2.0, microSD slot, and support for MP3/WMA/AAC audio player and MP4/H.263 video player.

LG has said that it plans to extend its Cookie line of touchscreen with more launches in 2010. It has not indicated the price at which the LG GS500 Cookie Plus touchscreen phone will be launched.
