The phone will have a 4-inch screen and will be the second Smartphone to have such a large display, the first being Toshiba TG01.

“For the previous Black Label series, our focus was on design. This time, we want to go beyond that, I believe the experience users will have with our phone will be different from what they could get with the iPhone,” Ahn Seung-kwon, president for LG’s mobile business said.

There is very little official information available about the LG BL40, but unconfirmed reports say that LG BL40 has a 4-inch multi-touch screen with a resolution of 800×345 pixels and an aspect ratio of 21:9.

Ironically, the only other device to have this ratio is Philips’ 55-inch Cinema 21×9 LCD TV (with a higher resolution of course) which costs £4500.

The screen of the LG BL40 is covered with scratchproof tempered glass screen. The LG BL40 also has a five megapixel camera Flash, Active shooting UI and Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens.

Other features of the phone include a flash interface, internet browsing, HSDPA and inbuilt Wi-Fi, accelerometer and on-screen keyboard.

It is yet to be confirmed whether BL40 will be the final title for the working model. A promotional video on Youtube has been uploaded, which reveals that the phone has design features similar to the earlier models in the LG Chocolate Black Lable series.

The first three models in the LG Chocolate Black Label series – Chocolate, Shine, and Secret – have been very successful.

The LG Chocolate phone has sold 21 million units in 54 countries, in the three years since its launch.

Meanwhile, LG unveiled has unveiled its LG Applicaion Store that it will launch in  Asia-Pacific, Europe and South America before end-2009.
