Looks like LG is getting closer to the launch of the LG Arena Max. Why Max? Well, because it has a 12 MP camera, and a big-ass 5 inch screen! Yes, the biggest screen to rule them all!

AG Arena Max: One feature phone to rule them all?

My first reaction when I heard about the 5 inch screen was – Yes! This one is mine! I was willing to live without a physical keyboard just to have such a large touchscreen. But then I found that things are not all that rosy.

It has the biggest screen to rule them allĀ  – if you are alright with running a non-smartphone OS. The full name of the Arena Max is the Arena Max LU9400, though it is likely the company will ge rid of those numerals and stick to calling it the Arena Max. When you have a 5 inch screen, you can very well call your phone whatever you want! For comparison, the Nokia N900 – which many think is an internet tablet and not a smartphone – has a 3.5 inch screen.

There are no photos of the Arena Max available for now. No leaked pics, no spy shots.

What no one is sure about still is the OS which the LG Arena Max will run on. We don’t think it is Android. Gizmodo said they thought it might be the ‘dated’ S-class interface. That, if true, would be a mistake for sure. It would be the first adopters and gadget lovers who will pony up whatever the price is for a 5 inch touch screen phone, and they are not the type to go for a phone running a not-so-cool OS.

The only concrete news that we have so far is that the LG Arena Max LU9400 has cleared wi-fi certification. Some think that the certification is in the phone category, rather than the smartphone category, and therefore this would be a fature phone. That would be a disaster. If LG is nuts enough to do that, perhaps they deserve what would be coming to them!

LG Arena Max LU9400 would be the successor to the popular LG Arena KM900.

We are also hearing about super-fast download speeds. Again, who wants superfast downloads? The geeks. And they want a smart OS and a phone they can install apps on, feel superior to the iPhone or Motorola Droid fanboys, and a proprietary OS is not going to give them that.

Come what may – the Arena Max is going to come with a hefty price tag attached. All we can do is hope against hope that LG has been secretly working on integrating Android into it, or at least the latest Windows Mobile 6.5. If this is a feature phone, I will give up on LG. Forever.
