Lenovo launches two laptops for Indian SMB segment

Lenovo, the laptop maker, has announced the launch of two new laptops targetted at the small and medium businesses (SMB) in India. The new laptops come as part of the Lenovo Thinkpad Edge series and are specifically targetted at SMB customers. One of the two, the Thinkpad X100e is an ultraportable.

Lenovo India Managing Director Amar Babu said, “We currently have 2-3 per cent market share of the Indian SMB segment. Our focus would be on growing in this market and a double digit market share is achievable.”

“About 10 per cent of our business comes in from the SMB segment, which has a huge growth potential. In the coming weeks, we would launch more products in the 14 and 15-inch screens,” Babu said.

Babu did not elaborate on the exact numbers and time frame of its goal.

The Lenovo Thinkpad Edge series is priced at INR 34,000 and above, while ultraportable ThinkPad X100e prices start at Rs 29,950.

The Indian SMB segment is thought to have spent about INR 5,275 crore in 2009 on PCs while it is predicted to grow to INR 5,515 crore in 2010.

    When will this be available in India? Lenovo India website does not say anything about the availability of these new models…

    that is how lenovo operates in india – their MD launches the product and people down the line does not have iota of knowledge about the product being launched let alone having information on availabilty…. No doubt lenovo has 2% market share despite having stellar products on its portfolio. I must have spent 500 rupees talking to their banglore office to toll free number to sales people of lenovo ( believe me) to business partners but no body has a clue
