iPod Nikes are on way

Nike's Air Zoom Moire shoes to have sensor to relay workout data to the user's iPod Nano.

The new range of Nike Air Zoom Moire shoes will come with an iPod kit, essentially a sensor and transmitter that picks up data about the runner's workout and sends it to the runner's iPod. The iPod Nano will pick up the data, which can be relayed to the runner's earplugs. Alternatively, the data can be shifted to a computer and uploaded online at www.nikeplus.com. The workout data can also be viewed on the iPod screen.

The iPod Nike is the first footwear that talks to a music player to deliver workout data to the user's headset. Nike believes that both Nike and Apple targets the same set of customers. An iPod Nike, they believe, will be a perfect fit.

The iPod Nano sensor kit on the Nike Air Zoom Moire will also collect data on the distance run, calories burnt etc. According to Nike, many Nike-wearing runners are already using iPod, and the Nike iPod kit will be a boon for them.

The Nike Air Zoom Moire shoe is not out in the market yet. The sneakers is expected to be out in a couple of months. The trainer shoe Nike Air Zoom Moire will come for a price of $100. The Nike Air Zoom Moire iPod kit is likely to be priced round $29.

Nike has also unveiled jackets and apparel which suit the iPod user, which convenient holding slots for the music player. The new Nike apparel has been designed in such a way that the wires are concealed within the apparel. Apple said that it will use a proprietary technology for the iPod-Nike data transfer. Experts say that this could be a variant of Bluetooth. The data transfer frequency is expected to be 2.4 GHz.

The iPod Nike will also require that the synchronizing software Apple iTunes has to be upgraded to iTunes 6.0.5.

Nike was earlier in talks with Philips to bring out a similar product. But the efforts did not bear fruit.
