INFOSYS TECHNOPARK INVESTMENT

Infosys to pump in Rs 306 cr for new Thiruvananthapuram centre

22 May, 2007

IT behemoth Infosys Technologies Ltd has kick started the construction of its first campus at the Technopark in the Kerala capital. The company plans to invest Rs 306 crore to set up a state-of-the-art campus, which would include facilities for work and recreation for its employees.

Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, who performed the groundbreaking ceremony for upcoming development centre, said that state “is emerging as a key IT destination in south India. Infosys ramping up its presence in Technopark is a reaffirmation of this fact. The magnitude of Infosys' investment in its development centre demonstrates its long-term commitment towards Kerala and speaks volumes about the world-class facilities on offer here for its employees.” K Dinesh, Co-founder and Member of the Board, Infosys Technologies Ltd, in his speech thanked the government of Kerala for the support extended. He added that the company is looking forward to create 8000 seats this center over the next few years.

Infosys, which has been operating out of a leased facility in Technopark since 2004, will now have two full-fledged operations in Thiruvananthapuram, on completion of the new facility. Over the next year, in the first unit, Infosys plans to create a capacity to seat 1,500 employees. The existing facility at the Technopark campus in Thiruvananthapuram has a capacity of 1,100 seats and has seen an investment of Rs 30 crore, as of March 31, 2007. This development centre has a world-class work environment designed to enhance productivity and efficiency. Infosys has also leased 40,000 sq. ft. of space in the Thejaswini Block at Technopark for expansion.

Speaking on the occasion, Technopark CEO N Radhakrishnan Nair said the start of work for the software development centre by Infosys marks the take off of Technopark to the trajectory, considering the infrastructure problems and the social tensions in traditional Tier-1 IT locations. We will see a number of big league IT/ITES companies expanding to Technopark and Kerala to benefit from the manpower resources and excellent quality of life.
