INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY |
IIT-Kharagpur displaces IIT-Madras
as the best technology college in
India
29 June, 2007
IIT-Chennai has been pushed back to
the second position by IIT-Kharagpur
in the survey for the best technology
and engineering college of the
country. Till last year, the top
position had been held by the
prestigious IIT-Chennai.
The survey was conducted by a computer
magazine in India, Dataquest and
International Data Corporation (IDC),
a US-headquartered research firm.
According to the survey, the top seven
positions for the best technology
colleges in India went for the seven
IITs in India. To gain the number one
position, IIT-Kharagpur climbed two
positions from its earlier tally of 3.
For the first time in the history of
the survey, The National Institute of
Technology (NIT), Warangal, has
stormed into the top 10 list.
While IIT-Chennai has slipped from the
top slot to second position, IIT-Mumbai
climbed two spots to occupy the third
slot. The premier IIT-Delhi had slid
to fourth from No.2 last year, while
IIT-Roorkee has jumped two places to
fifth spot.
IIT-Kanpur and IIT-Guwahati came in
sixth and seventh. While Indian
Institute of Information Technology,
Hyderabad, bagged the ninth spot,
Institute of Technology of Banaras
Hindu University (BHU) was at 10th
spot.
As part of the survey, Dataquest and
IDC conducted studies on the top 117
technology and engineering colleges of
the country. Points were awarded based
on parameters like placements,
infrastructure, academic environment,
industry interface, and HR perception.
The second-tier engineering colleges
in the country are also making a mark.
Six NITs formerly known as Regional
Engineering Colleges (RECs) have
entered the Top 20 list.
