HTC is releasing its Knight on Sprint’s WiMax network. This smartphone is just the third device to use Sprint 4G, the other two being Samsung Epic 4G and HTC Evo 4G.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has recently approved HTC’s new 4G mobile. This phone runs on Android 2.2 Froyo and has a 1 GHz processor. It has an 8 mega pixel camera, 3.7 inch display and a sliding Qwerty keyboard.
There’s no news yet on when HTC Knight will be available and there’s no certainty as to what it will be called either because Knight seems to be a code name. There’s a small chance that the phone might be released for Christmas and that it might either be called Sprint HTC Desire Z, HTC Speedy or HTC Evo Shift 4G.
The name HTC Evo Shift 4G was recently registered as a trademark. So, as Phandroid, a technology website, says, it is possible that the HTC Knight will be called Evo. Spint’s HTC Evo Shift 4G has been a big seller so the name might well work for the wireless operator and HTC.

The Evo Shift 4G aka Knight will be smaller than the HTC Evo 4G. However, the Knight does have a bigger battery, a sliding Qwerty keyboard which the original Evo 4G doesn’t; but the new Knight Evo phone lacks a camera on the front – which seems silly since 4G networks are meant to provide high broadband speeds and are therefore good for video calling.
An HTC phone with model number PG05100 was also recently approved by the WiFi Alliance. We’re not sure whether this phone is the HTC Knight, but tech blog Pocketnow points out that the phone’s model number is said to be similar to that of the Knight, which means the new PG05100 might be from the same product line as the Knight.
HTC PG05100 supports WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, same as the Knight. This handset also has WMM Power Save features and the Converged Wireless Group has certified that it fulfills the required conditions for cellular-WiFi convergence. HTC PG05100 seems to be the seventh mobile from HTC to have the same WiFi profile. The six others include HTC Merge and HTC Vision (Desire Z).
Pocketnow goes on to say that HTC doesn’t own the name Evo Shift 4G, so we’re befuddled as to the true identity of these mysterious HTC devices.
We do know one thing for sure though – Sprint 4G users will soon get at least one new device from HTC and it will support WiFi. Also, it might even be called something cool like ‘Knight’.
