HTC has unveiled its rumored HTC Leo smartphone, now officially called the HTC HD2 phone.

The HTC HD2 is the company’s first Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.5 Pro-equipped phone to run HTC Sense, HTC’s custom user interface.

The HTC HD2 has a 4.3-inch capacitive touch display with 800×480 resolution that allows multi-touch, enabling users to customise the home screen with shortcuts of their choice.

Users can also resize documents, websites and photo using their fingers.

The phone measures 4.74 x 2.64 x 0.43 inches and weighs 157 gms with battery.

The HTC HD2 smartphone makes it easy for users to stay connected by storing all emails, SMS, phone logs, and Facebook updates about a particular contact in one place.

Business users can make a call to the sender while reading an email and also make conference calls using a dial button placed next to conference call reminders.

The phone comes with a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, dual LED flash and a new river-flow gallery.

The HTC HD2 smartphone has a 1-GHz Snapdragon processor, 512-MB ROM, and 448-MB RAM.

The phone comes with a microSD memory card that is SD 2.0 compatible.

The phone works on HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz and GSM: 850/950/1800/1900 MHz in Europe and HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz and GSM 850/950/1800/1900 MHz in the Asia Pacific region.

HTC promises up to 7.2 Mbps download speed and 2 Mbps upload speeds for 3G; up to 114 kbps download speed for GPRS; and up to 560 kbps download speed for EDGE.

The HTC HD2 is WiFi-enabled with specifications of  IEEE 802.11 b/g for internet access at WiFi hotspots.

The phone also comes with a 3.5-mm stereo audio jack and standard Micro-USB (5-pin micro-USB 2.0).

Other features include Bluetooth 2.1 with Enhanced Data Rate and built-in GPS antenna.

The company says the HTC HD2’s rechargeable Lithium-ion battery has the following specifications:

Capacity: 1230 mAh

Talk time: Up to 322 minutes for WCDMA; Up to 380 minutes for GSM;

Standby time: Up to 390 hours for WCDMA; Up to 490 hours for GSM.

The phone offers video playback of up to 8 hours and audio playback of up to 12 hours.

The HTC HD2’s multimedia features include Windows Media Player, FM Radio, and support for .aac, .amr, .m4a, .mid, .mp3, .mp4, .qcp, .wav, .wma audio formats. The phone supports .wmv, .asf, .mp4, .3gp, .3g2, .m4v, .avi video formats.

The phone is expected to be launched in Europe in end-October 2009. There is no information available as to when the phone will be launched in the US or India.

There is no word on the price of the phone either.

The HTC HD2 is expected to be priced at around Rs 40,000- Rs 45,000 in India.

Recently, HTC launched the HTC Hero Android phone in India priced at Rs 31,990. The company had launched the HTC Touch Diamond in India in 2008, at a price of Rs 27,500.

Yesterday, HTC launched the Windows Mobile 6.5-equipped HTC Tilt 2 and HTC Pure .
