The top-end Windows Mobile 6.5 mobile phone, the HTC HD2, is now avalable in India. Earlier, Tata Docomo had announced the launch of HTC HD2 with an exclusive offer for subscribers using an HD2.

HTC HD2 now in India
In many ways, one can safely say that the HTC HD2 is the most powerful smartphone available in India. The price of Rs 36,900 is quite acceptable for a mobile phone in this category. In Mumbai, though, the price of the HD2 goes up to touch Rs 40,000.
Pretty much every feature you want is on offer in the HD2. Some might complain about the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS running the HD2, but HTC has added its own touch interface named HTC Sense on top of Windows Mobile, making it extremely easy to use.
The HTC HD2 has a powerful 1 GHz Snapdragon processor running the show, offers a mammoth capacitive touchscreen that is 4.3 inches wide and the resolution on offer is 800×480. There is 512 MB ROM, and 448 MB RAM. Those are top of the line specs for any phone. The HTC HD2 is the first Windows Mobile phone to offer a capacitive touchscreen. There is brute horsepower here, easily putting the Apple iPhone 3GS or Blackberry smartphones in the shade.
We would have loved to see the HD2 running the Android OS, but HTC has not done that yet. Android OS arguably has more apps than Windows Mobile, and for those who are obsessed about the availability of a large number of apps, this is a negative.
Other features include a 5 megapixel camera, auto focus, dual LED flash, GPS, FM radio, video and music player, a 3.5 mm jack and can use 3G when it becomes available.
Apps that come standard on the HD2 include social networking apps for Twitter and Facebook, Windows Live, MS Office Mobile, MSN Messenger. There is a Google Maps app which can run on the HD2 – so you can really use that GPS.
HTC now says that the HD2 is available from a very large number of dealers across all Indian cities.
If you buy an HD2 from Tata Docomo, their 6 months, free 500 MB download per month plan is quite attractive.
