HCL launches cheap Android tablets in India; prices start at Rs. 15,000

HCL Infosystems has rolled out affordable Android-based tablets in India with prices starting at as little as Rs. 15,000.

HCL has launched three tablet PCs in 7-inch and 10-inch screen sizes. HCL Me AE7-A1, HCL Me AM7-A1 and HCL Me AP10-A1 will hit the Indian markets carrying a price tag of Rs. 14,990, Rs. 22,990 and Rs. 32,990.

At Rs. 14,990, the HCL tablet should be a great success as it hugely undercuts the other Android tablet PCs available in India, such as, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Olive Telecom’s OlivePad, and the 5-inch Dell Streak.

Price: Rs. 14,990

The entry-level Android tablet from HCL comes with a 800Mhz processor and runs Android 2.2 aka Froyo OS. It has a 7-inch resistive touch display with a 800 x 480 pixel resolution.

HCL Me AE7-A1 has 256MB DDR2 RAM and in-built NAND Flash 2GB. Memory can be expanded up to 8GB via a microSD card. For connectivity, the HCL tablet supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 and EVDO dongle USB interface.

The HCL tablet comes with a front-facing VGA camera, GPS navigation, G-sensor, built-in speakers, internal mic and 3.5mm stereo jack. It is powered by a 2400mAh battery and weighs only 400 grams.


Price: Rs. 22,990

Also powered by a 800Mhz (but better) processor, the Me AM7-A1 tablet sports a 7-inch capacitive, multitouch display screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. The AM7-A1 is 3G-enabled and runs Android 2.2 OS.

The HCL tablet comes with 512 MB (DDR RAM), 8GB iNAND (in-built ) and microSD card expandability up to 16GB. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g), Bluetooth 2.1 and a USB 2.0 port.

The Android tablet has a SIM card slots and supports networks of HSDPA/UMTS?2100MHz) and GSM/EDGE(850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz).

A high-performance tablet, HCL Me AM7-A1 support full HD 1080p video playback and has a 1.3-megapixel in-built camera for video calling. The tablet features 2 high-quality speakers, an internal mic and a 3.5mm stereo jack.

The 7-inch HCL Me AM7-A1 Android tablet boasts gravity acceleration sensor, ambient light sensor and AGPS. A 4200mAh battery powers the tablet. The AM7-A1 is highly portable and weighs only about 300 grams.

HCL Me AP10-A1

Price: Rs. 32,990

A high-performance, low-power Cortex A9 processor that clocks at 1Ghz powers the HCL Me AP10-A1 tablet. The Me tablet boasts a 10-inch capacitive, multitouch display with a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution. The AP10-A1 also runs Android 2.2 OS.

The HCL tablet has 1GB RAM) and 16GB in-built memory. A microSD card can be used to expand the memory up to 32GB.

The Me AP10-A1 has a high-power built-in 3G (HSDPA/HSUPA). Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, USB 2.0 and mini USB. The HCL tablet comes with a SIM card slot.

It has a 1.3-megapixel for video calls and plays full HD 1080p videos. Other features of HCL Me AP10-A1 include GPS/E-compass, 3D accelerometer and light sensor.

HCL Me AP10-A1 is powered by a 3650mAh battery. This Android tablet weighs a little heavier that its brothers at 750 grams.
