Harry Potter goes to space!
NASA obliges space station commander's request
to see latest in Potter series

24th November 2005
Hogwarts and Harry Potter came alive on board the
International Space Station on Wednesday, as NASA
beamed the latest movie in the Potter series to
two astronauts orbiting the Earth.
The plan to beam the movie to the Space Station
was conceived after Station commander Bill
McArthur asked if there is there is any chance he
could watch the movie while camping at the
International Space Station.
NASA tapped Warner Brothers Pictures, makers of
the Harry Potter series, in the hope that
something could be worked out. Warner was only too
happy to be of service to the space voyagers, and
immediately agreed to the NASA request.
Currently, there are two crew members on duty at
the Space Station - Bill McArthur and Valery
Tokarev. The station crew is mostly busy
conducting experiments and performing station
maintenance, but they do get some downtime to
relax and chill out.
Over the years, the space station crew have built
up a DVD movie library, CDs, books, music and
magazines, at the station. The crew of the space
station rotates in a fixed schedule. Crew and
material are transported to and from the Space
Station with the Russian spacecraft Soyuz and
Progress.
McArthur and Tokarev are part of the 12th crew on
board the station, which is a testbed for journey
to the moon and the Mars.
