Good news coming out for Google Voice’s iPhone users. Google has launched a fully web-based service that works on Apple iPhones and Palm’s Pre and Pixi mobiles. Apple had last year rejected a native app by Google for its iPhone, but Google has now launched a web based service that works in the same way, though in a much efficient way.

Though Apple is still thought to be thinking if it should officially approve Google’s app, the new service is expected to be a huge thing for developers because they can develop more application-like functionality to web applications. The same functionalities that can be seen in the native Voice apps for Android and BlackBerry can be had on your iPhone’s Safari browser too.

Apple iPhone mobile phones that run on 3.0 operating system will support the new Google Voice service. The service will also work on Palm’s WebOS and Palm Pre.

The Google Voice works in such a way that the app can use local storage, so the user will not have to load the entire Gmail inbox everytime the user launches it. This app-like browser service lets the user to dial a specific contact from his list of Gmail contacts and it can also be used to read and send messages. The person who is receiving the call will not see the name or phone number of the calling person, rather he will see the Google Voice number of the person calling.

From the iPhone, Google makes an outgoing call and will use a line of its own to reroute the call.

The user can also send SMSes from the service for free and this feature is expected to be a major hit. The drawback of this Google Voice service is that the service cannot be used to open or check the in-built directory of the iPhone.

Experts say that the new Google Voice service for iPhone is prety good, it comes no-where close to the real neat apps for Android or Blackberry.
