Google, the US based search engine giant that has made its foray into the mobile phone segment, announced the launch of a software developer’s kit for its mobile operating system Android 2.1.

Google has been keeping Android 2.1 SDK under wraps till the launch of Google Nexus One smartphone. This move had angered many third party software developers. And now that the Google Nexus One smartphone has been released, Google has released its SDK for Android 2.1 to the Android community.

The Android 2.1 SDK is aimed at helping the community find out the peculiarities and functions of the OS, most of which are beneath the surface. The main components of the Android 2.1 SDK are a fully compliant Android library and system image in addition to emulator skins and sample applications.

According to Google, the Android 2.1 does not make much difference over its predecessor Android 2.1, which could be the reason behind the delay in the release of the SDK.

The developers community had sounded out their concerns when they were not provided the necessary tools to test and check their applications and to check the compatibility with the new 2.1. As Google has launched the SDK now, the developers would be able to start creating apps and content for Google Nexus One and Android 2.1.
