DELL COMPUTERS FROM WAL-MART

Wal-Mart and Sam's Club to sell Dell Dimension PCs

26 May, 2007

Computer-maker Dell has announced plans to sell its PCs through Wal-Mart, the low-cost retailer across the world-wide. Dell, the US based firm, has so far been concentrating on sales through direct sales, phone orders, and the internet. For a company which has so far been following a specific sales strategy, its not clear what forced the company to make a drastic change in its sales methodology.

The latest move by Dell is expected to give a boost to the company, which was pushed back by Hewlett-Packard last year as the world's biggest PC maker. The company has also announced that in Dell's top ten sales markets, the company will add additional retailers.

Dell initially plans to sell its low-cost desktops, the Dimension, through Wal-mart's 3500 stores and Sam's Club Stores in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. From June 10 onwards, these Desktop's from Dell will be available together with the accessories, for USD 700 per unit.

Dell spokesperson Bob Pearson said, "In the coming quarters, there will be additional activity in support of this move into global retail. Today's announcement with Wal-Mart represents our first step. Stay tuned."
