Computer behemoth Dell is making headlines for what the world thinks is a move toward making mobile handsets. It has been reported that Michael Dell sparked rumours of this kind while speaking at an event in Tokyo.  Though the news is not confirmed beyond doubt, analysts believe that the chief executive was slightly more specific than he has been in the past on this topic. According to Micheal Dell, for the last three years, Dell had integrated 3G radios into notebooks and already has deals with mobile carriers around Netbook devices. He added saying that “it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect that we would have smaller mobile Internet devices or smartphones in the future,” it has been reported.

The industry and analysts have been waiting for a concrete announcement in this regard ever since Dell appointed former Motorola executive Ron Garriques. With the Tokyo speech it seems like the company might in fact go for the manufacture of smart phones. It is being said that a smartphone, which in fact is a handheld computer, would fit in with Dell’s plan to diversify. The computer major is already looking at expanding its product lineup .

Dell , it is being speculated that, had been watching the development of mobile devices. The success of Apple and the iPhone plus the Google Android must have spurred the Dell Chief to think of one for himself too, it is believed.

Further, the mobile handset market is throwing up more and more opportunities day after day, it would be more surprising if Dell wouldn’t throw its hat into the ring. It is also being speculated that Dell might make its entry through the purchase of Palm Inc. This because Palm is vulnerable, and Dell has cash, said a report. A TMC report said that Palm is staking its potential for survival.
