Compaq Airlife 100 Android smartbook announced

Compaq has announced the launch of its brand new smartbook, the Airlife 100, in association with Telefonica, in Europe and Latin America.The Airlife 100 smartbook will be offered as a subsidised part of mobile broadband service plans in Europe and Latin America. The concept was showcased at the Consumer Electronic Show 2010 at Las Vegas and was well-appreciated.

The Airlife 100 smartbook has a 10.1-inch touchscreen with a 92 percent full-size keyboard. Thesmartbook is powered by a Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon processor and runs the Android operating system.

The smartbook also offers a VGA webcam, 16GB solid state drive, microSD card slot, custom widgets, Instant boot, 3G and WiFi connectivity. The Compaq Airlife 100 smartbook will not come with Google applications, such as google maps gmail etc, as Google has yet to certify the product.

The Compaq Airlife 100 smartbook comes with HP’s new ‘tabbed’ touch browser experience that allows users to zooming web pages and take advantage of a touch-optimised media suite and shortcut menu.

“The browser has become the desktop for many people, and the new Compaq AirLife is the next evolution of a mobile computer that is streamlined specifically for the web. This new type of user lives life online and no longer measures computing speeds and feeds, but rather friends, people and online social ranks,” said Charl Snyman, vice president and general manager, HP Personal Systems Group, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

The Compaq Airlife 100 smartbook offers up to 12-hour battery life and 10 days of standby time, the company has claimed.

NDrive navigation software comes pre-installed. Other specs include regional maps with points of interest and GPS.

The Compaq Airlife 100 smartbook is available in Cloud White and will be launched in the Spring of 2010, in select countries, exclusively via Telefonica. The company has not revealed any information about the price of the Compaq Airlife 100 smartbook.
