CDMA touchscreen mobile phones in India

With a huge CDMA mobile customer base, second only to the U.S., you would probably expect India to have plenty of CDMA phones with cutting-edge technology. Not so fast. 

Leave alone Android 2.2 OS, forget about 3G capability, we tried to find CDMA phones in India with a basic touchscreen display, and quite frankly, were disappointed with the results. Apart from Samsung, LG and Motorola, no major cell phone player has good CDMA phones to offer to India, unlike in the U.S., where companies develop CDMA phones specifically for CDMA networks. 

Nevertheless, here’s a list of CDMA phones with touchscreen display available in India, in descending order of their prices: 

Motorola Milestone XT800

Price: Rs. 30,000

What you get: Motorola Milestone XT800 is India’s first Android 2.1-powered CDMA+GSM dual standby, dual SIM touchscreen smartphone. Milestone XT800 has a 3.7-inch FWVGA touch display and 5MP camera with dual LED flash. 

Milestone XT800 has a built-in GPS satellite navigation with Google Maps. For work-minded users, Milestone XT800 enables viewing and editing documents in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF and Zip formats.

Samsung Galaxy i500

Price: Rs. 25,000

What you get: Compatible with CDMA 1X and EVDO Rev. A network, the i500 is an offshoot of Smasung’s popular Galaxy series of phones. The Galaxy i500 CDMA phone features a brilliant 4-inch Super AMOLED touch display. 

The Samsung phone is powered by a 1GHz processor and runs Android 2.1 OS (and will likely update to Android 2.2). The Galaxy i500 has a 5MP Camera with LED flash and supports ultra fast data speed up to 3.1 Mbps. 

Other features of Samsung Galaxy i500 include DivX playback, Aldiko e-book reader, Thinkfree Mobile Office, Allshare and Swype. The phone is powered by a 1500mAh battery. 

Yulong Coolpad N900

What you get: Dubbed as the Chinese iPhone killer, the Coolpad N900 available through Reliance CDMA features a 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen display and runs Windows CE 6.0 operating system. The N900 boasts a 5-magapixel camera and a powerful 1200mAh Li-ion battery. 

The Coolpad N900 comes with 256MB DDR + 256MB NAND+4GB Hard disk memory, expandable up to 32GB. The bar phone measures 106 mm X 59 mm X 14.2 mm and weighs 110 gms. For connectivity, the Coolpad N900 offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a USB port. 

Samsung Galaxy i899

What you get: Featuring a 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, Samsung Galaxy i899 was India’s first CDMA phone on Android platform. The phone is 3G-enabled and runs Android 1.5 aka Cupcake (did we hear “obsolete?”). 

The Galaxy i899 comes with a 3.2-megapixel camera with LED flash streams YouTube videos. For connectivity, Samsung Galaxy i899 CDMA phone supports Bluetooth, USB 2.0, GPS and Wi-Fi. It comes with pre-installed Google Apps suite and is powered by a 1440mAh battery. 

Motorola Backflip

What you get: Android 1.5 CDMA phone Motorola Backflip not only features a 3.1-inch HVGA touchscreen, but also boasts a reverse hinge full QWERTY keypad. The Backflip is 3G-enabled and comes with a 5-megapixel camera with LED Flash and a trackpad. 

Weighing 133 gms and measuring 53.0 x 108.0 x 15.3 mm, the Backflip packs in a Qualcomm MSM7201A 528MHz processor. The Coolpad 2938 measures 103 X 53 X 17mm and weighs 110 gms. It has a 1300mAh Li-Ion battery and features Bluetooth, GPRS and USB port. 

Samsung Duos Touch W299

What you get: The dual-SIM Samsung Duos Touch W299 works on 800 MHz (CDMA) and 900/1800 MHz (GSM) networks. The phone works on Tata Indicom, Reliance and Virgin Mobile CDMA and GSM networks in India. 

It has a 2.3-inch TFT LCD touchscreen display. The W299 measures 49 x 113.8 x 15.9 mm and weighs 120 gms. The phone has a 2-megapixel camera, 4x digital zoom, video recording function, and a dedicated camera key. Samsung Corby Speed CDMA touchscreen phone is available in Jamaican Yellow, Cupid Pink, Minimal White and Festival Orange colors. It comes with 2 back covers, a leather case and 2GB microSD card in-box. 

Huawei C7300

What you get: Available with Tata Indicom, Huawei C7300 is a bar phone with a 2.8-inch TFT touchscreen display. The phone measures 109.4 × 57.6× 14.2 mm and weighs 107 gms. 

Huawei C7300 features a 2-megapixel camera with digital zoom and Bluetooth connectivity. The C7300 supports Java and Internet surfing speeds of up to 3.1Mbps. The Huawei CDMA touchscreen phone comes with pre-installed Facebook, Orkut, Gmail, YouTube and Twitter widgets. Phone memory can be expanded up to 4GB. 

Maxx GC 1000
