Casio G’zOne Rock unveiled by Casio and Verizon Wireless

Casio and Verizon Wireless have announced the launch of the Casio G’zOne Rock rugged phone.The CASIO G’zOne Rock, that will be available in Matte Black, is priced at $149.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year contract.

Consumers will be able to purchase the phone online from November 20, 2009. The phone will be available in Verizon stores from November 30, 2009.

The Casio G’zOne Rock has a clamshell form factor and a 2.1-inch display screen with 65k colors and a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. The external screen has a 0.9-inch display with a resolution of 96 x 96 pixels.

It is packed with features aimed at customers with a penchant for the outdoorsy lifestyle.

The phone has a 2-megapixel camera that offers four shot modes, Normal, Multi, Night and self, Flash, LED light, and comes with video capture and playback. It has a dedicated one-touch key to access the camera or video.

The Casio G’zOne Rock has a protective cover of silicon rubber, which in turn is covered by a frame made of reinforced plastic and polyurethane, Casio has said.

The company claims that the phone can survive blowing rains and high humidity levels. It can stay underwater up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter.

The Casio G’zOne comes with stereo Bluetooth that supports headset, handsfree, A/V remote control, dial-up networking, A/V distribution, phone book access, and object push profile for VCard and VCalender.

There is GPS and customers can avail of Verizon’s VZ Navigator service that offers turn-by-turn directions, color maps, and an electronic compass feature.

The phone comes with speakerphone, up to 300 minutes of talk time and 630 hours of standby time.

The Casio G’zOne offers the following unique features:

Astro Calendar: This features shows the moon’s age and days until a full or new moon and astronomical phenomena.
Earth Compass: It multi-tasks as a standard compass and when used with GPS shows the distance from and directions to over 40 domestic and worldwide places

Thermometer: This function shows the temperature in Celsius and Fahrenheit

Tides: It provides information such as current tide, tidal graph for the day, the time of ebb and flood tides, and past and future sea tide levels.

Sunrise Sunset: This feature provides date such as the times for sunrise and sunset for current, past and future dates and times for major cities.

Walking Counter – measures steps, time, distance, speed and energy consumption and shows measurements from start of journey.

Other specifications of the Casio G’zOne Rock phone include MicroSD card storage up to 18GB, and USB 2.0.
