Canon has launched two new compact superzoom cameras: Canon Powershot SX230 HS and Canon Powershot SX220 HS.
The new Canon shooters combine high-zoom performance, wide-angle flexibility and full manual control. The SX230 HS is the first Canon camera to include built-in GPS. The SX220 HS is Europe-only, non GPS camera. Canon Powershot SX230 HS will be available at a retail price of $349.99 in the U.S. market and €299 in the European market. The SX220 HS is priced at €269.
Canon Powershot SX230 HS and Canon Powershot SX220 HS cameras feature 28-392mm equivalent 14X zoom lenses, 12.1MP sensors and 460k dot 3.0-inch LCDs. They come with P/A/S/M shooting modes and a Super Slow Motion movie mode that records 340×240 movies at 240fps as well as 1080p Full HD movies capture. The new Canon cameras feature a Movie Digest mode that records videos around 4 seconds before every still image taken, which is later combined together into a VGA-resolution movie.
GPS-enabled Canon Powershot SX230 HS collects location data from satellites and geotags your snaps with information on where they were taken. Later, you can display pictures on maps in software such as Google Maps, Flickr and Picasa.
Canon claims that the two cameras increase dynamic range and reduce gritty image noise, up to speeds of ISO 3,200. The two cameras include a12.1MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor and Canon’s powerful DIGIC 4 processing technology.
The HS System in Canon Powershot SX230 HS and Canon Powershot SX220 HS works to produce images with reduced noise and increased dynamic range that produces clear, detailed and natural results. The DIGIC 4 processor provides accurate color tones, as well as high responsiveness in everyday operation.
The 14x Canon optical zoom lens featured in both models offers a huge zoom range to capture a wide range of subjects. The 28mm wide-angle setting allows user to capture wide, sweeping landscapes or fit more of a scene into a frame. With the full zoom at a 392mm equivalent focal length, users can reach distant subjects without having to move.
In addition, Canon Powershot SX230 HS and Canon Powershot SX220 HS feature a High-speed Burst mode that assures that you never miss a moment, by rapidly shooting up to 8.1 shots/sec at 3-megapixel resolution.
The two cameras comes with an optional Waterproof Case WP-DC42, so that users can explore a whole new world of underwater photography. The case provides water resistance to depths of 40 metres, as well as protecting the camera from dust, dirt and damage. Users can choose between pink, blue and black finishes for the PowerShot SX230 HS, purple and grey for the PowerShot SX220 HS.
