Canon EOS Rebel T1i DSLR camera will reach US shops in May. The latest Canon digital camera pegs its highest quality HD video shooting and recording as its USP. But that’s not all.

The processor of the EOS Rebel T1i DSLR is DIGIC 4 from Canon. Coupled with the CMOS image sensor, it is a deadly combo for high-detail still image and full HD video recording. Canon EOS Rebel T1i DSLR is full of features, many of them new, and some of them old. The imaging sensor is 15.1 megapixels (MP), while the LCD on the back is a clear, 3-inch wide screen, which is anti-relfective and resistant to scratches. The Canon EOS Rebel T1i will be called the EOS KISS X3 in Japan.

The Canon EOS Rebel T1i DSLR is compatible with the EOS System of lenses and Speedlite flashes. The maximum HD video resolution possible on the Canon EOS Rebel T1i DSLR is 1920 x 1080.
For easy viewing of still images and videos recorded on the camera, the Canon EOS Rebel T1i DSLR comes with an HDMI (high definition multimedia interface) cable. The HDMI cables allow for quick connection to the personal computer monitor or the television for viewing.
The heart of the Canon EOS Rebel T1i DSLR camera is its DIGIC 4 Imaging Processor. The processor has 14-bit analog-to-digital conversion capability and the ability to process full HD video. This latest Rebel series camera from Canon can continuously shoot at a speed of 3.4 fps (frames per second) until you hit 170 large/fine JPEG photos. Or, it can click up to nine RAW images in a single burst if you are using a SD/SDHC memory card of class 6 or higher. The high FPS of the latest Rebel will come in handy during the fast shooting for sports or wildlife.
The Canon EOS Rebel T1i DSLR is a signal of a growing trend: That of entry-level digital SLR cameras sporting high-quality video recording. The T1i DSLR has borrowed some of the features from the higher version EOS 50D and still managed to keep the price at $800 minus the lens, and $900, with the lens.
To compose still & video images conveniently, the Canon EOS Rebel T1i sports a 3-inch LCD screen with VGA resolution at the back, over and above the viewfinder. The 920,000-dot Clear View LCD, (Canon terminology) makes it a breeze to check the details, colours and sharpness of still and video images, before and after shooting.
The ISO settings on T1i digital SLR camera can be adjusted from ISO 100 through 3200 in standard mode, and from 6400 to 12,800 in expanded mode. The broad ISO range enables the photographer to shoot in varying light conditions.
Canon claims that armed with a 4GB memory card, the Rebel EOS T1i will be able to record around 12 minutes of video in 1080 mode, 18 minutes in 720 mode and 24 minutes in the standard-definition 640 mode.
“We are witnessing the emergence of a new phase in digital imaging history, as high-resolution still images and HD video can now both be produced in a hand-held device, for under $1,000. This is truly a great time to be involved in digital imaging as the advent of online communities are helping usher in this next great era in imaging,” stated Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A.
The T1i EOS has a nine-point autofocus system, which is compatible with Canon’s EF and EF-S series of lenses, which include the bigger-aperture EF L-series.
The latest digital SLR from Canon also sports an Auto Light Stabilizer. The stabilizer ensures the subject of the image is not unduly under-illuminated by analyzing image brightness and automatically adjusting dark areas to brighten them up. Especially when recording or shooting in high-contrast backgrounds, this is ideal. The Canon EOS Rebel T1i DSLR’s Auto Lighting Optimizer technology maintains exposure of the highlight areas, while lightening shadow areas.
Having a high-quality HD video recording function built right into a still digital camera is a good strategy from Canon. More are more camera makers are incorporating video options into still SLRs. There are two views about it: First, you don’t need to carry an extra camcorder. It doesn’t cost too much to build video functionality into a still SLR. The recording quality is quite good, since still DSLR cameras come with more powerful sensors and processors. However, most DSLRs with videos do not have long enough recording durations. Besides some of them (Not EOS T1i) record pictures in MPG format, which is basically a sequence of still images. While the Canon EOS Rebel T1i does record the movies in .mov format, many others still have to catch up.
The Canon EOS Kiss X3 will be available in Japanese stores from late April and in the U.S from May onwards.
