Business Today on Amazon Kindle has become the first Indian business news magazine to launch an edition for the Amazon e-reader.

The Business Today Kindle edition from the India Today group helps subscribers access the latest issue of the business magazine, whether in India or abroad. Earlier, the publishing group’s flagship magazine India Today had launched its own Kindle edition.

Other Indian publications with Kindle editions include Indian Express, Financial Express and Hindustan Times.

January onwards, Business Today will be available on Kindle at a monthly subscription rate of $1.25, with a 14-day trial period. Money Today and Gadgets & Gizmos — also Living Media group publications — are also expected to go live on Amazon Kindle soon. Other magazines from the India Today group too will get on to Kindle soon, said the company.

Ashish Bagga, CEO of Living Media group said Business Today on Kindle will target executives and audience who have already adopted the Kindle way of reading and people traveling abroad. India Today has been investing in digital delivery platforms earlier itself and this was a logical extension of it, he added. The India today group plans to make its mark in the new and emerging media, with this step.

With the launch of Business Today on Kindle, readers have access to the magazine anytime, anywhere. These editions can be read in over 100 countries. The group also plans to give access to the past issues of the magazine.

Though Amazon’s e-reader was not the first off the block, it became an instant hit thanks to the lakhs of books on Amazon’s electronic book shelves. Besides, Amazon also tied up with wireless service providers and perodicals to entice more buyers. More companies, including Sony and Barnes & Noble have been eyeing the e-reader market of late. Barnes & Noble launched a touchscreen e-reader called the Nook recently. Apple is also believed to be lining up e-reader capabilities in its upcoming tablet computer. In the meantime, Amazon launched an international edition, which can be used across the world. However, though a large number of American newspapers and magazines are available on the Kindle, there are very few Indian publications on the Kindle yet, which discourages many users who would like to use the gadget in India.
