British Telecom has announced that it will launch its super speed broadband, called BT Infinity, in the UK.The BT Infinity broadband will be available to order from January 25, 2009.

The company has said that it will give download speeds that are five times faster than the current standard.

The BT Infinity is a fibre optic broadband that will offer download speeds of 40Mbps and upload speeds of up to 10MBbps.

The company claims that with the BT Infinity broadband households with multiple internet devices can use the services simultaneously.

BT also says that downloads using Infinity would be 7 times faster on iTunes and online gaming would be 30 per cent faster.

Customers will be available to choose from two package options.

They can pay £19.99 per month plus £50 activation fee, and £11.54 line rental, on an 18 month contract for 20GB usage per month.

Customers who go in for this option will get up to 40Mb download speeds, up to 2Mb upload speeds, BT Infinity Home Hub included, free engineer installation, and basic security.

Customers can choose another option in which they will have to pay £24.99 a month on an eighteen month contract for unlimited usage.

They will get up to 40Mb download speeds, up to 10Mb upload speeds, BT Infinity Home Hub, free engineer installation, and advanced McAfee security.

According to the company, the BT Home Hub comes with N technology that assures reliable connection, better wireless range, and a Power save mode that turns off the hub automatically, when not in use.

Security features include WPA as standard and an integrated firewall.

BT plans to invest £1.5billion in a program to make super-fast broadband available to at least 40 per cent of the UK by early 2012, dailymail.co.uk has reported.

The improved service is the result of a decision by BT to install a fibre-optic cable network – replacing the copper wires – to its exchanges and street cabinets across the country.
