BSNL has launched 3G services in Kashmir and has expanded the service areas in Gujarat.
Further, BSNL’s WAP portal BSNL Live will now be available in these areas and people will be able to access media such as movies, music and videos.
BSNL has launched 3G broadband services in Jammu and will roll out the network in Srinagar as well next week.
According to the company, there will be no limit to the number of connections that BSNL will allot in the state, and this number will depend entirely on customer response.
The 3G services were being tried out during the past month and will now be sold to customers without video calling facilities due to security issues. For the same reason, BSNL will only launch the 3G service in Jammu and Srinagar for now, and will cover other towns in Kashmir in a phased manner.
By and by, BSNL will acquire equipment that will help it to regulate video calls and after that it will allow video calling as well.
BSNL’s 3G services are already available in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in Gujarat and have now been launched in Rajkot as well. Gujarat has 30 lakh mobile subscribers and BSNL expects about 10% of the existing 2G subscribers to shift to 3G networks soon. The city of Rajkot itself has 2.5 lakh mobile customers. BSNL is said to have spent Rs 188 crore to prepare for the huge demand for 3G wireless services in Gujarat.
BSNL also launched Fibre to the Home services in Rajkot. This service and BSNL’s 3G is to be taken across the state over the next few months.
