Blackberry Presenter for mobile presentations launched

Blackberry Presenter, a mobile presentation device from Research In Motion, has been launched at CES 2010. The Blackberry Presenter is a cute little device, which can hook up to your BlackBerry handset wirelessly, via Bluetooth.

You can wirelessly transfer your PowerPoint presentations, images and PDF files to the Blackberry Presenter. From the Blackberry Presenter, it can be beamed with a projector, or connected to a TV monitor. Essentially, your BlackBerry smartphone works as a remote for the BlackBerry Presenter, which beams the images or presentations on to a screen.

The Blackberry Presenter will be available for a price of $200 from BlackBerry’s shopping website. Shipping is free in the US. It is not clear whether RIM will launch the Blackberry Presenter in European and Asian markets anytime soon.

The BlackBerry Presenter has just one button on top, which can be used to freeze, stop, and wake up the device. The back of the Blackberry Presenter has slots for a USB cable, S-Video and VGA video input. The BlackBerry Presenter is charged by a USB cable. The RIM website said that BlackBerry users, who travel around with videos and presentations, and avoid much of the hassle, since they can leave their laptops behind when they are moving around with the BlackBerry Presenter.

RIM said in a press release at the CES 2010 that that the Blackberry Presenter will be compatible with the BlackBerry Bold 9000, BlackBerry Bold 9700, BlackBerry Curve 8500 Series, BlackBerry Curve 8900, BlackBerry Storm and the BlackBerry Tour. It also said that only BlackBerrys running the BlackBerry Device Software version 4.6 or later can be used with the BlackBerry Presenter.

You should also have an Intel computer running Microsoft Windows XP or later, with a USB port. Before beginning to use the Blackberry Presenter, you should also install the Blackberry Presenter desktop manager software on your computer and the Blackberry Presenter smartphone application on the BlackBerry. Both applications are available for free download from the BlackBerry website.

Some of the features of the BlackBerry Presenter are:

Loop Mode: You can Set the time between individual slides and leave the BlackBerry Presenter on while the presentation is under way.

Support for PowerPoint effects: The BlackBerry Presenter accurately shows most of the slide animations and transitions.
