RIM’s long-delayed BlackBerry Bold has debuted and is expected to be in customer’s pockets by the first week of November 2008.
To carry a price tag of $300 including a two-year contract , the Blackberry Bold is not so highly priced when compared to the $200 iPhone 3G and $180 T-Mobile G1, say expert reviews.
The Blackberry Bold cell phone sports a bit like an iPhone, and a features a tweaked-up QWERTY keyboard with specially sculpted keys meant to avoid slipping and new thin metal dividers between each key.
The Blackberry Bold supports 3G, HSDPA, and EDGE and enables simultaneous voice and data capability. Other features include WiFi capabilities, Stereo Bluetooth and full GPS capabilities. The Bold is expected to hit the market with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, a 2-megapixel camera with 5X digital zoom and a 624 MHz mobile processor with 1GB on-board memory and 16GB additional memory capacity.
RIM doesn’t want to be seen showcasing the Blackberry Bold as an iPhone competitor, say industry reports. Because it is quite different, and targeted at a different market. Touch technology, screen size, and accelerometer do not exist in the Blackberry Bold . However, it has been certified by most as a phone that would charm the business user, whose needs are quite different. The Blackberry Bold cell phone comes with a full office suite and a non-virtual keyboard.
