Proving to be a hit in the southern region of the country, Big TV has clocked a figure of 500,000 subscribers in the four southern states within five months of its launch. The company said that this has also placed it in the unique position of being the fastest growing DTH player in the country.

This feat in the South follows Big TV DTH’s earlier accomplishment of crossing the landmark one million-subscriber milestone rationally within 100 days of launch in August 2008.

According to Mahesh Prasad, President – Reliance Communications, “Reaching the magic figure of 5-lakh customer milestone in the four Southern States was a great New Year gift to us. It is indeed a testimony to the superior product and the best proposition offered by Big TV and its success in accelerating the growth momentum of DTH sector in India.”

He said this has been made possible by Big TV’s unbeatable proposition which saw that Southern viewers got their favourite regional bouquet of channels along with popular channels all bundled with a competitive price offering and superior TV viewing experience.

Another plus for Big TV has been that it is the only one to score high on an all-inclusive channel bouquet for a cross section of populace from different regions, while other DTH operators focused on stiff packaging in South. Among the Southern States, Karnataka with Bangalore topped the list by crossing the 150,000-mark customer mark on January 1. This was achieved with a strong DTH sales network of over 3500 retailers across Karnataka.

Another impressive feat was achieved in Tamil Nadu, which is traditionally a regional fare customer base. Both in Andhra Pradesh and Kerala too, Big TV has emerged as the fastest growing DTH operator as these two Southern States have significant number of both the regional and all-India channel viewers.

Big TV’s new landmark has not only made it the undisputable leader in Indian DTH sector, but has also resulted in the expansion of the overall DTH market in India, said the company officials. Prasad added that “Big TV DTH also offers superior product proposition and service quality based on the world’s latest MPEG4 technology platform which offers fully digital picture and sound. Our superior content across the 200-channel bouquet helps us service multiple needs of all customer segments.  Our plans of defining the future of TV viewing in India are on desired course”. The service is available at one lakh retail outlets across 6500 towns and over 2000 Reliance branded stores.
