BharatMatrimony.com, one of India’s most popular matrimony portals, has announced the launch of ‘Facial Search’, a feature which uses face recognition tehnology.
Using this feature, subscribers of Bharat Matrimony can find look-alikes of their favorite celebrities on the Bharat Matrimony website.
People can upload the photos of the person they are looking for as their life partners, or photos of people who they would want their life partner to resemble. The Facial Search feature will help find people resembling the person whose photo has been uploaded.
Members are presented with the photos of other subscribers with facial characteristics similar to their choices.
Murugavel Janakiraman, founder and chief executive of Consim Info that owns the site, was quoted as saying that the facial search feature was an attempt to go beyond the normal search options like caste, religion, age, and profession.
“Now, our members can find a potential partner based on their preferences for facial appearance thus unlocking the wealth of information that is hidden away in photos,” said Murugavel Janakiraman, founder and CEO, Consim Info, which owns BharatMatrimony.com.
“Not surprisingly, many members are using this to search for celebrity lookalikes,” he added.
The state-of-the-art face recognition technology works on the dimensions of a face, measures distances between the features, and matches it with photos on BharatMatrimony uploaded by its members.
In fact, the facial search feature is very similar to the face restructuring technology used by police departments to track down criminals.
All of Consim Info will offer the facial search feature.
Consim has said that the search wil be limited to facial features only and not body specifications.
The facial search feature has been successful so far. Janakiraman has said that nearly 50 percent of the 15 million members in bharatmatrimony portals have uploaded their pictures.
According to Consim, celebrities in the news are more sought after. Aishwarya Rai is a favorite candidate and so is Actress Asin, and AR Rehman, flush from the successes of Ghajini and Slumdog Millionaire, respectively.
