Asus, the Taiwan-based netbook manufacturer, is all set to launch its latest netbook, the Asus Eee PC Seashell 1008HA.
The netbook has been officially launched in Taiwan and will be launched worldwide in the second week of May 2009.
The Asus Eee PC Seashell 1008HA netbook is the first in Asus’ line-up of Eee netbooks to have an integrated optical drive.

Shaped like a seashell, the Asus Eee PC Seashell 1008HAh notebook has a 10-inch screen and weighs just 1 kg.
The Asus Eee PC Seashell 1008HA has a 92-percent keyboard, and a multi-touch touchpad.
The netbook is powered by Intel’s 1.66GHz Atom N280, and has a good 2.5-inch SATA II 160GB hard disk storage capacity, 10GB of online Eee storage, and a 1 GB DDR2 SO-DIMM.
The Asus Eee PC Seashell 1008HA netbook also offers three USB 2.0 ports, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and an 8-in-1 card reader.
The netbook comes with an 802.11n Wi-Fi, a 1.3 MP camera, HSPA-based 3G, WiMAX, and both Windows XP and GNU Linux.
The Asus Eee PC Seashell 1008HA netbook also sports a Battery Slimmer and eco-friendly Li-polymer Battery. The battery back-up of 6 hours is also high as compared to other netbooks who offer a battery back-up of not more than 4 hours.
The Asus Eee PC Seashell 1008HA netbook offers Stereo speakers and a digital array mic that make it usable for a number of tasks.
The Asus Eee PC Seashell 1008HA netbook is available in white, black, blue, pink, sapphire blue, and ruby red.
There are no firm details about the price and availability, but reports say that the Asus Eee PC Seashell 1008HA netbook is available for pre-order at Amazon and Laptops Direct, for £379.50 and £399.97 respectively.

As I understand it, the 1004DN has an optical drive, the 1008HA doesn’t. The 1008HA looks nice, but the non-replaceable battery and non-upgradeable memory are a bit of a turnoff so I’m leaning towards the 1000HA with 9 hour battery and replaceable memory. Unless I can force myself to wait for netbooks with the ION chipset, but I doubt those will be in stores before September.
