Asus is stirring the e-reader market by announcing not one but two e-book reader products, the Asus DR-950, and the Asus DR-750 that it announced yesterday.
electricpig has reported that the Asus DR-950 e-book reader has a 9-inch black-and-white with a resolution of 1024×768 pixels.
It does not come with an OLED screen like the Asus DR-750 e-book reader, but the Asus DR-950′s huge screen and 0.35-inch thickness more than make up for it.
The e-book reader weighs only 370g. It offers a choice between 2GB or 4GB of storage, an SD card slot for expansion, HSDPA and WiFi connectivity. Other features include a 3.5mm headphone jack and USB to connect it to a computer. It might also feature WiMax support.
The Asus DR-950 e-reader supports a range of file types including PDF, TXT, Audible, MP3, ePub, HTML, JPEG, GIF, PNG and BMP formats. It also features text-to-speech and RSS reader.
The web browser works in both landscape and portrait mode.
There is no information available as to when the Asus DR-950 e-reader will be launched and at what price.
The Asus DR-570 e-reader, that is expected to be launched later in 2010, is a color e-book reader with 5.7-inch hi-def AMOLED screen with a resolution of 768x 1024 pixels.
The Asus DR-570 e-reader promises page refresh in just 0.03 seconds, compared to almost a second for the Kindle. The Asus DR-570 offers 122 hours of battery life on a single charge.
It will support Adobe Flash, video playback and packs a 3D user interface, WiFi, 3G, 4GB flash storage, a SD/SDHC card slot, 412 MB of RAM, RSS Reader,text-to-speech, and a full web browser.
