Apple’s 4G iPod Nano is taller and slimmer than previous iPod Nano models. The Apple 4G iPod Nano is 3.6 inches tall, 1.5 inches wide, and 0.24 inches thick. Apple’s 4G iPod Nano is also the lightest Apple iPod at 1.3 ounces. The Apple 4G iPod Nano has slightly curved edges recalling earlier models, unlike the rounder edges of the 3G Apple iPod Nano.
The Apple 4G iPod Nano comes with 8GB flash memory at $149 and 16GB for an extra $50.
The Apple 4G iPod Nano has an anodized-aluminum design and comes in nine colors - black, silver, pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.
The Apple 4G iPod Nano has a curved glass cover for the display screen that is supposed to reduce scratches.
The display screen is vertical and is two inches (diagonal), 320-by-240 pixels, and 204 pixels per inch. Because of the vertical screen, the 4G Apple iPod Nano has more horizontal space. Apple has used this extra space to increase the font size of the menus.
On the display screen, the headphone and dock connections can be found on the bottom of the Apple 4G iPod Nano while a sliding hold switch can be found on the top area of the Apple 4G iPod Nano.
The Click Wheel of the Apple 4G iPod Nano is slightly larger than that of the 3G Apple iPod Nano.
Other features of the Apple 4G iPod Nano include an accelerometer, audio crossfade, Energy Saver, Spoken Word Menus, and Genius - on-the-iPod version of iTunes 8. The Spoken Word Menus provide accessibilty to visually impaired users, who can now hear menu, selection, and playback information read out to them by a synthesized voice.
The Genius feature allows users to create playlists of upto 25 songs based on the music of a single song. To use this feature, users will need to enable Genius on their computer’s iTunes software.
The Apple 4G iPod Nano comes pre-loaded with three games, updated versions of Klondike and Vortex, and a new game, Maze.
