The new Apple Tablet is is expected to launch in a media event on 27 January. It i expected that there will also be an announcement for an upgrade for the iPhone and a new OS, according to the latest reports.
Though the launch of Apple Tablet is sure to take the centrestage at the event, industry observers are optimistic that Apple will also announces some news about its iPhone. The so-called fourth generation iPhone, or the iPhone 4G as some call it, may be near,
Though none knows what exactly Apple will present for iPhones, it is expected that the company might offer a new upgrade, since the last upgrade was in March of last year. Also, the company might revamp the user interface of the Apple iPhone to go along with that of Apple Tablet. Another improvement to the iPhone OS that is expected is proper multi-tasking, which the iPhone cannot do now currently unlike the Nexus One or the Motorola Droid.
There is also another possibility that the Apple iPhone could connect to the Tablet if AT&T provides tethering.
There are also unconfirmed reports that Apple might jump to another US wireless carrier for its iPhone due to persistent quality issues with AT&T, so this is considered as somewhat highly unlikely.
Other OS changes for the iPhone might include expanded multitouch functionality, syncing changes for calendars and contacts, and more graphical UI enhancements are expected to be announced at the launch. Better app organisation on the device could be another item on Apple’s table.
Rumours are also flying high on the launch of a brand new handset, though this too is considered highly unlikely. The new Apple handset, if at all there is one, could include a 5-megapixel camera, a camera flash, and an OLED display. There is also talk about a removable battery too.
Apple might launch a new 4G iPhone – this is bit of a far-fetched rumour. Yes, the fourth gen iPhone may be called 4G as we have done before, but no true 4G iPhone is expected. We can be sure that this is not going to happen, because even in the United States, 4G technologies like LTE are in their infancy. A company like Apple won’t throw its weight behind such a new technology which offers such a low coverage.
