Apple iPhone 4 will be out on BSNL’s network in India within a month, a BSNL executive has told news site Mymobilescoop.com.
The BSNL employee, however, didn’t say whether the iPhone 4 will be locked to BSNL’s network, but added that BSNL’s data plans for the iPad will apply to the iPhone as well. iPhone 4 will likely be priced around Rs. 44,000 though there will be different versions of the phone at different prices.
A CDMA iPhone 4 was recently released on Verizon Wireless in the United States, ending more than two years of exclusive iPhone rights that AT&T enjoyed. Last year, Apple was said to be discussing the possibility of launching CDMA iPhones on Tata Indicom and Reliance Communications in India, and is expected to do so early this year.
Verizon’s iPhone will be available starting Feb. 10 at $200 for a 16GB model or $300 for a 32GB model with a 2-year contract with Verizon. Earlier we had written about how iPhone 4 devices for Verizon were being manufactured by Taiwanese original equipment manufacturer Foxconn, while those iPhone 4 phones headed to India and China would be made by another Taiwanese company called Pegatron. There was to be a one month lag between the time that Foxconn ships iPhone 4 devices and when Pegatron does so, with Foxconn scheduled to be first. So if iPhone 4 will be available on February 10 on Verizon, it could be available in about a month from that date in India. Of course, Apple’s plans will probably differ widely from what we’d like them to be.
Sooner or later though, iPhone 4 will be here, and it has a built in Wi-Fi modem that can support up to 5 devices – such as a laptop, a friend’s laptop and so forth. This ability will make a pretty good deal when coupled with BSNL’s almost pan India 3G network (minus Delhi and Mumbai circles), accessible at special rates by Apple devices:
3G RCV for Apple devices/Micro SIM
Unlimited 3G (Monthly) – Rs. 999
Unlimited 3G (Daily) – Rs. 99
Limited (6GB) 3G (Monthly) – Rs. 599 – data use beyond limit @ 1 paisa/10 KB
Unlimited 3G postpaid plan for Apple devices with Micro SIM

Also imminent is the availability of the iPad on BSNL’s network. We earlier believed it would be out by January 28, but that didn’t happen. iPad will cost between Rs. 26,000 and Rs. 44,000 in India depending on whether it’s Wifi+3G or Wifi only and whether it has 16, 32 or 64GB of memory.
16GB – Rs. 27,900
32GB – Rs. 32,900
64GB – Rs. 37,900

32GB – Rs. 39,900
64GB – Rs. 44,900
