This is the most expensive version of the Apple iPad, just announced by Steve Jobs.

Some one hour into the presentation, there was no mention of 3G connectivity, and many just assumed that there would be no 3G on the iPad at all. Now it is revealed that it is not the case.

The non-3G version of the iPad comes in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB versions; and prices are $ 499, $ 599 and $ 699 respectively.

The Apple iPad 3G+WiFi versions start at $ 629 for the 16GB iPad, $ 729 for the 32 GB one and $ 829 for the b64 GB one.

The highest priced one, therefore, would be the 64GB iPad at $ 829. There is no mention of carrier subsidies yet – but that may only be announced later.

We think that price is a little too much for a tablet computer that really is a glorified touchscreen iPhone. We say so due to the 1 GHz processor, something that is beginning to be common in high end smartphones like the HTC HD2, Nexus One or Sony Xperia X10 these days.

Netbooks with 3G and Wifi and powered by 1 GHz Atom processors are not available at around $ 500. Which makes the iPad look like a really expensive alternative.
