Knock Knock! Who’s there? iPad 2! iPad 2 whooo..are you kidding!?
We kid you not, dear reader. Apple’s iPad 2 is all set to launch in India this month. OK, so we don’t have an official confirmation yet, but the writing on the wall has never been this clear: It’s happening, and it’s happening soon!
Apple’s India website is showcasing the mighty iPad 2 and if you are an Apple fan you would know that an Apple product is not displayed on the website if it’s not slated for an imminent release in that geographical region.
Also, there is an inventory crunch for the original iPad in the Indian markets, and speculation is rife that Apple has discontinued the model and is clearing the shelves for the release of iPad 2 in India. Indian daily Times of India reports that except for the Wi-Fi+3G 64GB model, it is difficult to find an iPad in the National Capital Region.
And to clinch the case, a discount website Deals and You has already put up a page offering a 27 percent discount for the iPad 2. The tablet PC comes with 1-year Apple India warranty, the website says. The delivery period is said to be a maximum of 3 weeks, which means that the iPad 2 will be officially launched in India within April.
Apple has been heavily criticized for its step-motherly treatment toward India, a country considered to be a fast-developing technology giant by other gadget makers like Samsung and HTC.
When the original iPad was introduced, it was dumped in India after 9 months of its release in the United States. Frankly, we were not expecting the iPad 2 to hit the Indian shores officially before 2012!
The iPad 2 carries the same price tag and storage limits in the United States, as the original iPad. Hence, we were expecting Apple to follow the same pattern in India also.
However, the Deals and You page about the iPad 2 reveals that the Wi-Fi only 16GB version would be priced at Rs. 37,400 and the 32GB version would carry a price tag of Rs. 43,599. The iPad 2 Wi-Fi+3G 16GB tablet would set you back by Rs. 49,499, while the 32GB version would be priced at Rs. 56,299.
It looks like that an early delivery is coming at a premium. But let’s not forget that these prices have not been confirmed officially yet and till that happens, we can stay a bit hopeful.
The new iPad is powered by Apple’s new dual-core A5 processor and has a 9.7-inch LED-backlit display. The iPad 2 is an astounding 33 percent thinner than the first iPad, measuring 0.35 inches in thickness, against the original iPad’s 0.5 inches.
The new iPad is also 15 percent lighter; the iPad 2 weighs 1.3 pounds, while the original weighed 1.5 pounds. Despite a thinner body and a more powerful processor, the iPad 2 will deliver the same good old battery life of 10 hours, like the original iPad.
The new iPad features two cameras: front-facing VGA camera for FaceTime video chats and Photo Booth photo captures, and a rear camera which is capable of recording 720p HD video. Apple claims that it has over 65,000 applications designed specifically for the iPad 2?s large display in its App Store.
The iPad 2 features a Smart Cover that provides protection for the iPad screen without adding to its weight. Designed with a unique self-aligning magnetic hinge that makes it easy to attach and remove, the Smart Cover automatically wakes iPad 2 when it’s opened and puts it to sleep when it’s closed.
