Amazon’s Kindle 2 coming: accessories already here

Even before Amazon announced Kindle 2, its new ebook reader, the Web is buzzing with sales of accessories and rumors and pictures of the latest Kindle. Amazon, however, is yet to reveal its cards on the upcoming Kindle.

In fact, Amazon has not even indicated that it is planning to launch a new-generation kindle. However, the location and timing of today’s press conference have given rise to indications that Amazon is planning to launch a new Kindle 2 . Amazon web stores ran out of stock of the old Kindle in the run-up to the holiday season, fuelling rumors that Amazon is clearing the shelves for the new model of its popular ebook reader Kindle.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, the new Kindle (Kindle 2) will be launched on Monday. Wall Street Journal also said that Amazon has persuaded popular novelist Stephen King to write a novel, to be available exclusively on Amazon’s Kindle 2. The Journal did not say whether Stephen King will write the novel for Kindle 2, or whether the Stephen King novel will be available later outside the Kindle 2 format either.

However, it is a known fact that Stephen King is a fan of the Amazon ebook reader Kindle. He has gone on record earlier, saying that the ebook readers like Kindle will not replace ordinary paperbacks. Last year, Oprah Winfrey too recommended the Kindle, hugely boosting the publicity for the product.

Meanwhile, in the run-up to the Kindle 2 launch, some blogs had reproduced what they claimed were leaked photos and pictures of the Kindle 2. However, Amazon is yet to announce there is a new Kindle 2 on way, let alone hand out a picture.
