Acer has launched the Acer Tempo mobile phone series in Barcelona. The Acer Tempo is the first move by the Taiwanese notebook PC maker into the cellphone arena. Acer Tempo will be available in eight models, the company said. Acer, which has a large presence in India is likely to launch the Tempo series in India as well.

The top-end in Acer’s Tempo phone series is the Acer Tempo M900. The smartphone, which runs Windows Mobile 6.1. is aimed at business users. The Tempo M900 is a slider phone with a physical keyboard as well as a large 3.8 inch WVGA touchscreen. It features HSDPA mobile broadband besides WiFI and Bluetooth.

The Acer Tempo M900 also comes with a fingerprint sensor, which makes password-keeping a thing of the past. Apart from Windows Mobile 6.1, the Acer Tempo M900 will also have Microsoft Mobile Office with Word, Outlook and Powerpoint. The slider keyboard means that it easier to type an edit long documents on the go. Acer’s Tempo M900 mobile phone will also have GPS, FM Radio, voice recording and voice command features. The expandable memory on the M900 Tempo makes it easy to store large files. The 5 megapixel (MP) camera on the Tempo M900 is equipped with a flash.

The Acer Tempo F900

Acer’s No.2 in the Tempo line is the F900. The Acer Tempo F900 is pegged as an internet-friendly mobile phone. It sports Internet Explorer 6 with Adobe Flash Lite and support for Javascript, which enables a fuller web surfing experience. The Acer Tempo F900 mobile phone also has a suite of web applications preloaded.

The Acer F900 doesn’t have a slider keyboard, but comes with a sleek 3.8 inch WVGA touchscreen. Apart from HSDPA (High-speed downlink packet access) and WiFi, the Tempo F900 cellphone also has HSUPA (High-speed packet uplink access). The F900 has a different widget-based home screen layout, which the company says enables easier navigation and quick links to contacts, email messages, bookmarks, calendars, date and time, world weather and music. The F900 is pegged as an internet phone.

Acer Tempo X960

The Tempo X960 and the Tempo DX900 are the “lower” models in Acer’s Tempo series. The black and silver Tempo X960 has a 2.8 inch VGA touchscreen and no physical keypad. The five-way navigation button allow easy manoeuvring around the phone. Acer has also loaded the 960 with Windows Mobile and Windows Mobile Office applications.

The Tempo X960 comes with GPS functionality, though map availability and loading the required software is a different story in India. The Acer press release in the X960 Tempo does not mention whether the phone will come preloaded with maps or not. The Acer mobile phone also has a VGA 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with flash. There is a front-side camera for video calls as well.

Acer Tempo DX 900

The Acer DX 900 is a dual-SIM smartphone, supporting 3.5G (HSDPA) and 2.75G (EDGE) SIM cards. The touch screen has a 2.8 inch VGA display. The buttons are large and finger-friendly. 3D animated icons and transition effects are part of the user interface.

The speed dial panel features photo contacts for most frequently used numbers With Outlook Mobile email client you can access your business email and easily read attachments. The DX900 has a VGA camera in the front for video calls, voice recorder, voice-command, 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera with flash and expandable memory. With its twin sim functionality, Acer claims that the Tempo DX960 is essentially two phones in one.
