IBM teams up with B-schools to
make techies job-ready

The technology industry in the country
had been complaining for quite a long
time that the graduates they take from
the top colleges in India were not
job-ready. And at last, IBM has taken
up an initiative to train the techies
from top business schools in India to
make them industry-ready.
The main objective of the tie-up is to
bridge the gap between the academia
and the IT/ITES and BPO industry. IBM
has teamed up with B-schools like
Indian School of Business-Hyderabad,
Indian Institute of
Management-Bangalore, National
Institute of Design in Ahmedabad (NID),
SP Jain Institute of Management in
Mumbai (SPJIM), and Nirma Institute of
Management in Ahmedabad for this
initiative.

NIM, said that all the programs in the
course called ‘Service Science,
Management and Engineering’ (SSME),
will be launched in a year.
IBM and other colleges plan to prepare
a course like the ones in University
of California, Berkeley, Arizona State
University and North Carolina State
University and other Universities in
the US. These programs drawn on
research and teaching fields in
computer science, computer
engineering, business strategy, and
management sciences are said to help
students in developing skills required
in technology and services-based
economy in the country.
C Mohan, chief scientist of IBM,
India, said, "The new academic
initiative is designed to prepare
graduate students for careers in the
evolving multi-disciplinary fields of
services management."
IBM has also tied up with 740
engineering colleges to help students
develop skills on using latest tools
and technologies.
