Rich brat gets away after ramming into security guard

The 17-year-old teen who rammed into a security guard, greviously injuring him, has been let off on bail.

Yesterday, a security guard of Richmond Park apartment complex in Gurgaon was seriously injured after being hit by a 17-year-old student of GD Goenka School, Sohna. The teenager driving a Chevrolet Optra was racing with a fellow student who was in a Fiat Palio. There were five boys in the two cars and they had to pick another boy up before going to school to give their Class X examination.

According to the Police, the Optra tried to overtake the Palio in front of the apartment complex at about 110 kmh but lost control and rammed into the guard post. A security guard standing outside was crushed between the wall of the guard post and the car. He is battling for his life in a Gurgaon hospital.

According to the security supervisor in charge and the president of the residents' association of the society, the boys, far from being repentant, threatened them.

In the meantime, residents of the complex called the police, the boy's parents, and the school authorities.

The boy was released so he could appear for his exam and was later taken back into police custody. However, he was let off on bail yesterday. The other boys involved in the incident were issued challans for driving without a licence.

The incident has led to furious protests in Gurgaon. The residents of the apartment complex came out in full strength to voice their outrage.

The injured security guard has undergone one operation and needs to undergo two more operations to fix the multiple fractures in both legs. The medical superitendent of Umkal Hospital is not sure if the guard will ever be able to walk again.

The guard who hails from Jehanabad in Bihar is a father of four girls. His father was a coalfield worker who retired 12 years back and gets no pension. According to the guard's cousin, the guard's entire family is dependant on him and he feels it is unlikely he will ever be able to walk again or get another job.

Meanwhile, no one from the family of the accused turned up to visit the guard or offered any compensation.

The residents of the Richmond Park apartment complex have raised about Rs 1.25 lakh for the guard's treatment. Dilip Singh used to earn Rs 2,500 a month and cannot afford the hospital expenses that would cross Rs 3 lakh. The security company where the guard was employed has agreed to cover the difference. However, the reckless teen's father has been extremely unwilling to pay up.

The boy's father, a businessmen, claimed he had suffered losses in business and would not be able to shell out any cash. He says he can fork out only Rs 50,000. This from a man who can afford to let his son drive a Chevrolet Optra and go to a exclusive school like GD Goenka World School. Shame!
