Couples tie the knot on 7-7-07
hoping it will bring them luck
10 July, 2007:
Over 38,000 couples across the United
States chose to get married on July 7,
2007, because they thought 7-7-07 was
the perfect date. Many couples believe
that tying the knot on the auspicious
date that falls on a Saturday in
summer, which comes but once in a
century and is comprised of lucky
sevens, would bring them love that
will last a lifetime.
Linda Smreczak, a wedding planner with
Amanda Rose Weddings, said, “We had to
turn down quite a few brides wishing
for our services on this date, because
we were already so booked.”
Amanda Rose Weddings is a full-service
wedding planning company based in
Hilton Head Island, the United States.
According to wedding website
TheKnot.com, however, 7-7-07 has
proven to be “more than just your
average trendy wedding day.” More than
three times the usual number of
weddings for a July Saturday took
place on July 7, 2007, with a record
number of couples venturing to Las
Vegas for their nuptials.
In fact, a number of brides and
bridegrooms had started planning their
7-7-07 wedding a couple of years ago.
In the opinion of the Reverend Jerry
Kramer of the Lowcountry Presbyterian
Church, while seven is a number of
great spiritual significance in the
Scripture that is often associated
with “completeness” or “perfection,”
most couples are likely to have chosen
the date 7-7-07 because of seven’s
perceived association with luck and
magic.
“And they are going to need a lot more
than that if they want their marriage
to last more than seven days,” quipped
the Reverend Jerry Kramer. He
continued: “No doubt, some people
credit luck or a series of flukes for
bringing them mysteriously together,
but I like to say that there are no
coincidences, only providences.”
The Reverend Kramer revealed that a
friend of his even told him that if he
were to get married, “he would ask me
to perform the ceremony at 7:07 p.m.
on 7-7-07.”
