Pepsi G2 low calorie Gatorade
New version of Gatorade, Pepsi G2,
launched.
7 September, 2007:

The Pepsi G2 will be available in
convenience stores, independent
retailers and fuel pumps across the US
starting later this year.
Pepsi had given indications about
G2 Gatorade a couple of months back,
but did not say what the new soft
drinks would be called.
Pepsi's launch of G2, the new
Gatorade, is believed to be triggered
by declining sales of Gatorade due to
cooler weather and rise in soft drink
prices.
Pepsi claims that G2 has all the
electrolytes of the old Gatorade. An
eight ounce drink of Pepsi G2 gives
about 25 calories. Pepsico is offering
G2 in three flavours -- Orange, fruit
punch and grape.
The new soft drink, says Pepsi,
will keep athletes hydrated when they
are not training or competing.
G2 will be positioned in the
non-carbonated portfolio of PepsiCo.
The move is as part of the company's
efforts to become a total beverage
company, said Pepsi. Gatorade, which
brings sales of $1.5 billion, has been
in the market since 1967.
In the water segment, Pepsi has
also launched Propel Invigorating
Water. Pepsi has also staged a
relaunch of Aquafina Alive and SoBe
Life Water.
According to Pepsi, the launch of
Pepsi G2 is the biggest news
development since the development of
Gatorade. G2, said Pepsi, strengthens
Pepsi's leadership in the water, tea
and isotonics segments. G2 is the
largest Pepsi product launch since
Propel Fit water.
said Gatorade President Todd Magazine:
"Since their inception, Gatorade and
Propel literally have defined what
active thirst is all about. Built on
decades of scientific research and
deep consumer insights, we're now
doing what category leaders do –
delivering further breakthrough
innovation. With G2 and Propel
Invigorating Water, we’ve identified
new occasions and new need states to
fuel incremental growth."
Pepsi Propel Invigorating water will
be offered in three flavors:
strawberry, citrus and berry. The
price in US will be 99 cents to $1.59
for a single bottle.
Said Bob Murray, Ph.D., Director of
the Gatorade Sports Science Institute:
"We've applied science, along with our
extensive knowledge of the needs of
athletes and decades-long hydration
expertise, to help develop G2."
Pepsi bottlers currently deliver SoBe,
Aquafina and other Pepsi-Cola products
in all channels of trade. Beginning
later this year, the expanded Gatorade
arrangement will enable Pepsi bottlers
to distribute G2 and the Propel line
to small format customers, including
convenience stores, gas stations and
independent retail outlets.
