Two co-defendants to testify
against OJ Simpson
17 October, 2007
Two of O J Simpson’s alleged
accomplices in the Las Vegas armed
robbery case have agreed to testify
against him.
Walter Alexander, 46, and Charles H
Cashmore, 40, had each faced nine
felony charges, including kidnapping
and assault with a deadly weapon, in
connection with the alleged theft of
about $80,000 in sports memorabilia
from two collectors at the Palace
Station Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
Charles Cashmore told a judge that he
would plead guilty to a felony and
testify against O J Simpson and four
others over the theft of sports
collectibles in a Las Vegas hotel
room.
Media reports quoted their attorneys
as saying that Alexander and Cashmore
each will plead guilty to a single
felony count during a hearing
scheduled for October 23, 2007.
Alexander could face up to six years
in prison for conspiracy to commit
robbery, and Cashmore could get up to
five years in prison for an ‘accessory
to robbery’ charge. Their attorneys
said they would ask for probation.
O J Simpson, 60, and three other men
are scheduled to appear at a
preliminary hearing in November 2007.
If convicted on the 10 felony counts
that Simpson is charged with, he could
face life in prison.
Walter Alexander, a real estate agent
in Arizona, is a long-time golfing
friend of Simpson’s. Alexander’s
lawyer, reports said, declined to
comment as to what his testimony might
include.
At the time of the incident, O J
Simpson and some friends were in Las
Vegas for a friend’s wedding. On
September 13, they attended a
pre-ceremony dinner. Cashmore was
working as a cook and bartender,
according to Cashmore’s attorney
Edward Miley.
Simpson asked Cashmore to help him
move some things, and the men drove to
Palace Station, where Simpson had been
told that some memorabilia belonging
to him was being offered for sale,
Miley said.
Cashmore can testify that he and
co-defendant Michael F McClinton, 49,
of Las Vegas, were armed. He can also
testify as to who was in the room and
what they did, Miley said.
Cashmore and co-defendant Charles B
Ehrlich, 53, of Florida, were captured
on surveillance videotape carrying
boxes out of the hotel room, police
said. When he was taken into custody,
Cashmore turned over some of the
missing memorabilia to police.
