Country music star Keith Urban's spokesperson, Paul Freundlich, has confirmed that Nicole Kidman is engaged to marry Urban. Confirmation of the engagement ends months of speculation about the couple, both of whom are 38 and were brought up in Australia.

Freundlich told Reuters that the couple met in January 2005 at an awards dinner held by the Australian government in Los Angeles honouring the two of them.

Meanwhile, Kidman recently told People magazine that she is engaged to Urban. "He's actually my fiance. I wouldn't be bringing my boyfriend," she is reported to have said when talking about a gala event for the U.N. Development Fund for Women, for which she's a goodwill ambassador. Oscar-winner Kidman has also been spotted wearing a ring on her wedding finger.

Recently she had reportedly said in an interview that she loves Tom Cruise and will always love him.

Kidman was married to star Tom Cruise for 10 years. Their marriage ended in 2001. The couple have two adopted children.

Cruise is engaged to actress Katie Holmes who recently gave birth to their first child, a daughter they named Suri.

Keith Urban, a singer and guitarist, was born in New Zealand and grew up in Australia. Urban bagged a Grammy in 2005 for best male country vocal performance for the song You'll Think of Me and was pronounced entertainer of the year for 2005 by the Country Music Association.

Kidman was born in Hawaii but brought up in Australia. Kidman won an Oscar for her performance in the 2002 film The Hours.
