After 24 years, West Bengal MP gets 10 years for raping minor
West Bengal MP, Bir Singh Mahato has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for raping a minor girl. For a crime he committed 24 years ago.

A lower court sentenced Bir Singh Mahato, an All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) MP fom Purulia, to 10 years imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 1982.
It took 24 years for justice to be delivered. The rape and rioting case had been registered against him in 1982 at the Bagmundi Police station.
Mahato was produced before the additional sessions judge in Purulia, taken into custody and lodged in Purulia jail. Mahato's three assistants have also been sentenced to 10-year imprisonment. Two others were released by the court.
Mahato had been contesting the polls on an AIFB ticket for the past 24 years. He is likely to move the High Court to challenge today's judgement.
