Lok Paritran, a party floated by ex-IITians, formed just a few months ago seems to have performed much better than expected. The party has managed to take a fair share of votes from the DMK and AIADMK. The candidates, who contested from seven constituencies together polled in excess of 34,000 votes. The party contested in five constituencies from Chennai (Anna Nagar, Thousand Lights, Chepauk, Mylapore and Anna Nagar) and two other constituencies of Villivakkam and Mudukulathur in Ramanathapuram.
Santhanagopalan Vasudevan, Lok Paritran's Mylapore candidate , got 10,000 votes. He was contesting against Shekar and Napolean.
Similarly Rajamani, Lok Paritran's Anna Nagar candidate, garnered 12,000 votes contesting against stalwarts like Veerasamy and the MDMK.
Elanthirumaran , Lok Paritran's Chepauk candidate, got 669 votes and stood fifth among the 20 candidates who contested. He was contesting against DMK leader M Karunanidhi.
Lok Paritran stayed away from freebie politics and promised a corruption-free government. According to the election manifesto, the party stands for good governance, cleaning up the 'implementation pipeline', rewarding merit, ability, and skill, introducing technology and training employees in government departments.
