Blood & Iron wins Kingfisher Kerala Rocks 2008

Kingfisher has announced the winner of the biggest rock talent hunt show in Kerala, the Kingfisher Kerala Rocks 2008. The talent hunt show was won by the Chennai band Blood & Iron.

Kingfisher said that Kerala has long been the stronghold of rock music in South India, offering a foundation for the talent that Kingfisher seeks to nurture. The Kingfisher Kerala Rocks 2008, now in its second year, has helped to discover the exceptional rock talent that Kerala holds. "From participants across the state, who gathered at Calicut, Kochi and Trivandrum, the hunt for the winner finally came to an end with the judges declaring Blood & Iron of Chennai as the best of the gifted participants and Kochi’s rock bands Heretic and Illuminity as the runners-up. Warhorse Chained also from Kochi won the award for Best onstage Performance,” it said.

A total of 58 participants had registered for the talent hunt, of which 42 performed in the auditions. The semi-finals saw 10 bands staging their talent, with three bands being short-listed for the mega finals. Blood & Iron won the title and received a cash award of Rs. 100,000 and a contract for one year performance at Kingfisher events worth Rs. 100,000; runners-up Heretic and Illuminity received a cash award of Rs. 25000.

Announcing the winners, Shekar Ramamurthy, Deputy President, UB Ltd., said: “It gives us great pleasure to be associated with the Kingfisher Kerala Rocks for 2008. Initiated last year, this rock talent hunt has offered a much-needed platform for young people to showcase their extraordinary and varied talent in rock music. As this talent hunt is an annual event, we are sure the country will witness much more talented rock bands coming out every year in future.”

Sling Shot, the winner of “Kingfisher Kerala Rocks 2007” performed in the mega finals. To add an additional element of excitement to the event, Kerala's renowned band Avial rocked Bolgatty palace and made the event even more memorable.

The mega finals took place at the Bolgatty Palace in Kochi, with the three finalists performing live.
