Kaun Banega Crorepati 3 back on
Star Plus with Shah Rukha Khan
BY A CORRESPONDENT
January 22, 2007
Nau baj gaye kya? - That's the
question KBC fans are asking as SRK
prepares for his role as Kau Banega
Croprepati's host and anchor.
The hot seat is ready. The star is
raring to go. The nation waits with
bated breath on how KBC – 3 would
start rolling in a few hours from now.
The 9 P.M.s from Monday, through
Friday
Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), the game
show that stole a million hearts, is
making a comeback on Star Plus, which
could give competitor channels envious
nights for the rest of their lives.
And adding to the charm is the
presence of King Khan.
India's most successful game show is
back with the Badshah of Bollywood,
Shah Rukh Khan, at the helm. So
everything that is associated with the
show now ensures that the nation will
be glued to their TV screens while the
men and women who get picked for a few
moments on the hot seat fight it out
with computerji and Khan.
KBC-3 will be the gameshow’s GenNext
avatar. Coupled with the brains of
Siddharth Basu and his Synergy
Communications, the charm and energy
of Shah Rukh is sure to give the
audiences an extraordinary telly-viewing
experience. Every contestant will
compete for the mega prize of Rs 2
crore.
According to reports, Star India has
signed a five-year contract with
Celador for Kaun Banega Crorepati,
which incorporates both the format and
programme license. Incidentally, this
is the longest continuing license that
has ever been granted for the globally
successful show. So KBC is making
history of all sorts. Further, this
will also be SRK’s platform for a
second coming in the telly world, ever
since he shot to fame through the
memorable Fauji and Circus.
Meanwhile, one question remains. SRK
stepping into Big B’s shoes is one
move many fail to comprehend. There
had been many a criticism when Don was
remade with SRK trying to do things
done with panache by the versatile
Bachchan Sr. The film nosedived at the
BO. But then, KBC is totally a
different ball game altogether. While
die hard fans rule that King Khan will
come up trumps hosting the show, many
others feel SRK should have stayed on
where he is best comfortable, doing
romantic stuff on celluloid.
All said, KBC -3 has given Star India
all the hopes to be a winner even
before the first episode has gone on
air. The marvelous commercial now
being aired says it all. It has in it
all what needs to prop the show beyond
limits.
Talking of technicals and the use of
gadgetry, KBC will feature the largest
deployment of communication technology
to ensure more calls through landlines
and mobile phones in order to get a
chance to sit on the hot seat with
Khan.
The nation is waiting. The hot seat is
ready, so is the Bollywood’s Badshah.
As time ticks away for phrases like
lock kiya jaye and the like, made
immortal by Amitabh Bachchan to be
mouthed again in his inimitable style,
of course with his own variations, the
television buff has started asking,
“Nau baj gaye kya?”
